One of the priorities of the Land Bank, and every other conservation organization on the Island, is to protect the highlands. This isn’t only because what fresh surface-water there is on the Island begins its short journey to the sea from the top of the moraine, but also because who wouldn’t rather see a darkening ridge of trees with the moon rising behind it than a night train of trophy homes. These seven acres of summit were purchased in 1994.
