East Beach

Swimming in solitude

One of the great treasures of the east coast is the six miles of beach and 1,000 acres preserved by the Trustees of Reservations at the eastern end of Chappaquiddick Island. Like so many other places on the Vineyard, this beach goes by many names, most often simply East Beach. It abuts the Wasque Point Reservation, where swimming is prohibited due to the extreme currents. Both on Chappaquiddick, and both boasting views of Nantucket Sound and the Atlantic Ocean. Swimming is prohibited at Wasque, but East Beach’s six miles of coast provide ample swimming.

The Beach Expert Says:

East Beach is for those who really want to get away and be alone – the water is usually excellent, but bring food and supplies – there ain’t no civilization nearby!
